Mitchell Adam Haigh: 22 July 2002 – 31 January 2014

[one_third] Mitchell Haigh [/one_third]

[two_third] Today my wife and I along with many other people, attended the funeral of Mitchell Adam Haigh. The Uniting Church was the setting for saying goodbye to a young man who had so much impact on so many lives, as evident by the fact that it became standing room only for the ones who arrived just before the service started.

Although I did not know Mitchell well personally, he had become a big part of not only my own life but the life of our church as we regularly prayed for him and his family in his fight against cancer. Today as I sat and listened to Mitchell’s parents…Adam and Narelle and also his sister Sierra talk about their son and brother I could only marvel as they showed great strength in a time of great loss.

I sat and listened as Adam recounted some of Mitchell’s life, especially the latter part of his life that he battled cancer. Adam talked of the times that even though Mitchell would be in pain, through the regular treatment that he would have to endure for the cancer…he never complained. I had to keep reminding myself that when he was first diagnosed he was only about eight years old and yet over the next three and a half years he showed a maturity that would put most adults to shame.

A good friend of mine, who is also an accomplished singer and song writer was so moved by Mitchell’s life that he wrote and then recorded a song for the Haigh family. It is with their permission that they have allowed me to share  the recording “Mitchell’s Song” with this blog.

Adam, Narelle and Sierra, I cannot even begin to imagine the pain that you have felt and are still feeling through this tragic loss of Mitchell’s life. I would like you to know that you will still be in our prayers and that my immediate prayer is that the pain of the moment will be replaced with the joy of your memories that you spent together.
